Access here alternative investment news about July VC Trend: Chinese Startups Top Deal List, LPs Active In Direct Investing
Venture Capital

In July big venture dollars flowed into Chinese startups (again!) - at an even bigger scale than previous months. Among the top 10 VC deals made during the month, six were China-based startups.

Babytree, a “one-stop shop” parenting website founded in 2007, raised a late-stage venture round of $448 million from venture capital firms Matrix Partners China and Shenzhen Qianhe Capital Management. Local media reported that the company is currently valued at RMB 5.2 billion (USD $780 million) and is likely to file for IPO this year.

Among early-stage deals, Shanghai-based biopharmaceutical startup CStone Pharmaceuticals raised a colossal $150 million series A from a consortium of venture investors.

July’s top deal list also saw an uptick in LPs’ direct investing into startups. Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, which has been active in the direct investing space lately, co-led a $105 million series F with Intel Capital in New York City-based social network startup Sprinklr. Alaska Permanent Fund, the largest state sovereign wealth fund in the U.S., invested $100 million in Indigo Agriculture, a boston-based plant science startup.
