Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards yesterday announced a $1.8 billion state-of-the-art container facility will be built at the Port of New Orleans. Dubbed the Louisiana International Terminal, the project to build the new facility is a public-private effort between the state, the port and two global maritime companies — New Jersey-based Ports America and Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Co., port officials said in a press release. To be located on the Lower Mississippi River in St. Bernard Parish, the facility will be able to serve vessels of all sizes, increasing the port’s import and export capacity.
