The Queensland, NSW and Tasmanian government should take immediate steps to remedy "gold-plating" to make electricity prices cheaper, the consumer watchdog has recommended. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's electricity sector report said fixing the over-investment of network businesses could be done with "appropriate assistance" from the federal government. Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairman Rod Sims has released a report with 56 recommendations to drive down the cost of power.
