Hydrogen system creates electricity to power aircraft motors - the only by-product is water. : A company that makes hydrogen fuel cells to power everything from cars and bikes to homes and phones is helping develop technology to put low carbon planes in the air. Loughborough-based Intelligent Energy is part of the H2GEAR programme to push hydrogen technology for zero emission planes which could be taking to the air within five years. The £54 million collaboration is being led by GKN Aerospace and could create up to 3,000 jobs over the next decade in Bristol, Coventry and Loughborough.
