Grinnell College has a unique and successful investment history which demonstrates its value-oriented investment strategy. Grinnell’s investment philosophy is guided by the endowment’s significant role in the College’s financial framework and status as a perpetual pool of capital. The College’s investment policy directs that the “endowment shall be invested to ensure the long-term growth of its capital rather than to maximize annual income or short-term returns, recognizing the impact of volatility and liquidity on its responsibility to provide predictable and stable financial support for the College’s mission as a fine liberal arts college.” Grinnell’s investment assets exceed $1.7 billion and Grinnell is one of the few liberal arts colleges whose outstanding debt is rated AAA/Aaa by Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s Investor Services, respectively. The endowment provides more than half of the College’s annual operating and capital support. The College seeks to expand the depth and breadth of its investment staff by hiring an Investment Analyst. Funds will continue to be allocated to best-in-class external managers within the College’s approved asset allocation, working in both private and public markets, across geographies, and among various asset classes.
