William H. McLean is the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer for Northwestern University. He is responsible for managing the Universitys $6.5 billion diversified portfolio, which includes substantial investments in alternative strategies (hedge fund, Venture Capital, Private Equity, and Real Estate) as well as holdings in more traditional publicly traded global stocks and bonds. He is a director of Foundation Advisers, Inc. the overseer of investment vehicles for The Investment Fund for Foundations. In addition, he serves on the NCAA Investment Committee and the Mather LifeWays Board of Directors. He has taught Theories of Financial Investing for the past three years in the BIP program. He received his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979.
