Stefaan G. Verhulst

Stefaan G. Verhulst is the Chief of Research at the Markle Foundation and a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Media and Communications Studies. In addition he teaches at the department of Culture and Communications at New York University and is a Senior Research Fellow at the Center of Global Communications Studies, Annenberg School for Communications, University of Pennsylvania.
Previously, Stefaan was the co-founder and co-director, with Prof. Monroe Price, of the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy (PCMLP) at Oxford University, as well as senior research fellow at the Centre for Socio Legal Studies. In Oxford, he was also the Socio-Legal Research Fellow at Wolfson College. In addition, he was the UNESCO Chairholder in Communications Law and Policy for the UK, and taught at the London School of Economics (LSE).
Prior to Oxford he was founder and co-director of the International Media and info-comms Policy and Law studies (IMPS) at the School of Law, University of Glasgow and lectured on communications law and policy issues in Belgium.
Stefaan Verhulst has served as consultant to various international and national organizations including the Council of Europe, European Commission, Unesco, UNDP, USAID, World Bank, OFCOM, OSCE and DFID; was a Director of the Orbicom (Unesco) Board, and a founding editor of the International Journal of Communications Law and Policy.
He is the author and co-author of several books and multiple other publications on the intersection of law, policy and communications and is presenting regularly at international venues.
