I am a Director of Investments for the Employees’ Retirement System of Texas, a $26 billion USD pension sponsor located in Austin, TX. I sit on ERS’ Asset Allocation and Risk Management Committees and work across asset classes to manage the Trust’s liquid alternatives, hedge funds, and hybrid allocations. I manage a small and very strong team of experienced investment professionals. I joined ERS in 2011 to design and implement ERS’ (then) new hedge fund program. Since its inception, the program’s underlying portfolios have delivered award-winning performance while saving in excess of $21 million USD in negotiated fee savings. I am a board member with both the Texas Hedge Fund Association (THFA) and the Alignment of Interest Association (AOI). I am proud to have been recognized by Institutional Investor as “Alpha Generator of the Year” in 2015; Asset International’s Chief Investment Officer as a “40 under 40” asset allocator in 2014, “Next Generation CIO” nominee in 2014, “Power 100” in 2012, and “Industry Innovation Award” in 2013. Prior to ERS, I was a Portfolio Manager at HFR Asset Management and its subsidiary, Riverside Portfolio Management, in Chicago. There, I managed discretionary, co-advisory, and index fund of hedge fund portfolios including the HFRX Indices. I am a CFA Charterholder and have bachelor’s degrees in both Mathematics and Economics. I earned my master’s in Econometrics at the Universitaet Konstanz in Germany where I met my wife. We have two beautiful daughters.
