Dave W. Phillips
I'm a seasoned business executive, entrepreneur and general counsel with expertise in Corporate & Business Development, Startup Operations & Sales, and Internet Law & Policy. I'm passionate about technology, entrepreneurship and building transformative online communities. Over the last 18+ years, I've helped build and sell iconic and innovative companies, including @AOL, @Napster, @IGN & @Six Apart. Between 1994 and 2006, I served in operating, business development, and general counsel positions at America Online (AOL Inc., 1994-97), AOL Europe (AOL Inc./Bertelsmann AG, 1997-2000), Crunch Music Ltd. (acquired by Music Choice PLC UK, 2001), Napster (Bertelsmann 2001-02, IGN Entertainment (acquired by News Corp in 2005), and NaturalPath Media (acquired by Six Apart/SAY Media, 2009-10). Currently, I'm an EVP at Sidecar Technologies with a focus on legal, policy and corporate development. Sidecar's is building a transformative "shared-transportation" network that is disrupting the industry and challenging incumbents and local regulators. Between 1994 and 2006, I served in operating, business, and general counsel positions at AOL Inc. & AOL-Bertelsmann Europe, Napster, and IGN/News Corp. In 2006 I founded Naturalpath Media, which became the largest US Green Ad Network (comScore 2008-09) before selling the business to Six Apart/SAY Media (2010). Between 2010-12, I managed early-stage investments at Lark Ventures and co-founded SONR Labs, which develops mobile accessories and apps. After twenty years in technology entrepreneurship, business and law, I still believe in the power of technology to improve lives and the dynamic interplay between innovation (technology), competition (markets), and governance (law. My areas of expertise include Strategic Partnerships & Business Development, Corporate Development & M&A, Internet Law & Regulation, Operations & Sales Management.
