He was chairman of Cardiff-based and family-owned property development firm Rightacres Property. : Entrepreneur Mr McCarthy, chairman of family-run and owned Rightacres Property, the company behind major commercial developments such as the Central Square scheme in the centre of Cardiff, died while on holiday in Spain. He was aged 78. Born in Ruthin Gardens, Cathays, on the night of one of Cardiff’s worst bombing raids of WW2 in 1942, Mr McCarthy founded Rightacres, which grew to become one of Wales’ most successful property companies, in 1970. This year it celebrated 50 years in business.
