The government of Canada on May 11 announced plans to provide CA$26.8 billion for four major Metrolinx public transit projects in the greater Toronto area that are considered priorities for the province of Ontario, city of Toronto and York Region. The government will provide CA$10.9 billion for the Ontario Line project; CA$5.6 billion for the Yonge North Subway Extension; CA$5.5 billion for the Scarborough Subway Extension; and CA$4.7 billion for the Eglinton Crosstown West project. The government is contributing 40% of the cost for each project, up to a total of $10.4 billion.
