The Investment Officer (IO) serves on teams responsible for managing key components of Mayo Clinic’s investment portfolios. Spend at least 80% of their time monitoring and evaluating external investment managers, conducting due diligence on potential new investments, and preparing analyses and reports. Typically specialize in one or two asset classes and may assist Senior Investment Officer or the Deputy Chief Investment Officer in overseeing as many as 20 external manager relationships, depending on asset class. Up to 20% of an IO’s time may be spent on general treasury-related activities such as bond issuances, risk financing and insurance programs, pension fund programs or special projects.
Bachelor's degree is required; MBA or related graduate degree preferred. Significant investment experience or designation as a CFA or CPA may suffice in lieu of an MBA. Minimum of five years of investment management, capital markets or other relevant experience required with at least three years of investment experience at an endowed institution like Mayo Clinic, a foundation, pension fund or investment firm strongly preferred. Meaningful experience with investment due diligence and relationship management and demonstrated knowledge of one or more asset class portfolios of equities, bonds, venture capital, private equity, real estate, real assets or hedge funds is required.
For this particular role, an additional focus on candidates with transaction and negotiation experience within a commercial real estate, public or private real estate, hedge fund, or endowment/foundation setting preferred. Strong quantitative abilities and excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to build and maintain network of professional relationships within investment and/or real estate industry.
License or certification
CFA and/or CPA designation is a plus, but is not required
