Exciting opportunity to join a collaborative team of private equity investors with a proven track record of top-quartile performance. This leading Canadian Portfolio Management Team (PMT) sits within the $42 billion Equities Division at OTPP.  The team creates significant value across our global portfolio of 60+ companies, and is a highly valued partner to deal teams, management teams, and Ontario Teachers’ leadership.

As a leading pension plan, we strongly believe in the value the PMT division brings. This team has recently refreshed their global strategy and set a high aspiration for the contribution they can make to Teachers’ and our portfolio companies. As a result, the Equities division is embarking on a significant investment to expand and strengthen this group in 2020 and beyond.

In this position you will play a meaningful role working collaboratively with highly active deal teams across the lifecycle of our investments, from diligence through exit. You will support the Private Capital deal teams evaluating new opportunities and support Strategy and Value Creation Plans (VCPs) for our direct investments. You will support initiatives across several industries and be comfortable identifying opportunities and leading work across diverse functional areas.


Who you’ll work with

You will work in a dynamic, fast paced, creative environment with PMT colleagues, deal team investment professionals, portfolio company management teams and external advisors. You will also interact with the Board of Directors of investments you support.

On certain projects you will engage with external consulting teams and individual consultants. You may also work with our Infrastructure & Natural Resources colleagues on initiatives supporting the overall investment portfolio. In all instances, you will have the opportunity to work with talented and hardworking experienced individuals who you will learn from and grow your capability set.


What you’ll do

  • Support the creation of impactful VCPs for our private equity Portfolio Companies

  • Work across multiple industry sectors and functional areas to identify and drive opportunities to build value within the OTPP’s portfolio companies

  • Work independently or alongside other PMT team members, deal team member and external consultants to size and prioritize pivotal initiatives

  • Support management teams in implementing the initiatives required to deliver the VCPs in close coordination with PMT leadership and the deal teams

  • Ensure detailed Key Performance Indicators and mobilization plans are developed to ensure successful execution, track progress

  • Recognize and assess implications to current operating models, organizational structure and what additional support that may be needed to achieve results

  • Demonstrate a structured approach to problem solving that quickly identifies the high priority areas

  • Bring to bear robust analytics to specific initiatives working closely with management teams, ensuring consensus to the insights

  • Articulate findings that are measurable, in a pragmatic way which our mid-sized portfolio companies can implement

  • Demonstrate the ability to influence senior executives to gain support for your point of view

  • Lead cross-portfolio projects being driven by the PMT

  • Provide support to projects outside the PMT that are critical to Private Capital or OTPP (i.e. offsites, CEO conferences, etc.)


What you’ll need

  • Undergrad required; MBA preferred

  • Minimum of two years of Management Consulting experience at a Top Tier Firm.

  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth, critical analysis

  • Confident, articulate, and professional written and oral communication skills

  • Previous experience identifying and driving improvements in operations (supply chain, procurement, manufacturing) and/or top line growth (revenue management, sales force effectiveness, marketing, etc.)

  • Self-starter with a positive, team orientated demeanor

  • Valid work authorization for Canada and be willing to travel
