Assist the Treasurer and the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on strategic projects. Work will include recommendations, research, due diligence, and analysis. Collaborate across all levels of management to gain a thorough understanding of opportunities/ issues and ensure depth of analysis.

Day-to-day management and oversight of the approximate $1.8 billion of invested assets. These responsibilities include leading the planning and execution of the investment strategy. Ongoing communication with the Board, University Investment Committee, investment managers, custodian, investment consultant, and all other internal/ external parties that have related responsibilities in the management, reporting and safekeeping of these assets. Analysis of the macroeconomic and regulatory environment, liquidity requirements, tiered structure, fixed-income styles to use in each tier, request for proposals (RFPs), investment policy statement, and continual fiduciary oversight.

Work with the Treasurer and the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer to develop monthly and quarterly executive reporting to monitor university financial performance. Identify key drivers of financial performance at the consolidated level and unit level. Develop standardized reporting to translate this data into concise, executive communication.

Perform annual, on-site due diligence on external investment managers to evaluate that manager’s depth of staff, organization, security, compliance with investment guidelines, risk management processes, performance, outlook, business continuity plans and all other matters consistent with the exercise of due diligence with respect to prudent management of the invested assets. Ongoing monitoring of firm, management team and investment staff for change in ownership, change in philosophy, material litigation, client-servicing issues, significant account losses/ growth, security breech, performance volatility, etc.

Prepare relevant monthly and quarterly reporting to university executive management, University Investment Committee and Board of Trustees. Reporting will include investment performance, trend analysis, variance analysis, and qualitative interpretation of manager performance, sector performance, projections, economic drivers and any other relevant information. Both flash reporting and standard reporting will be expected.

Participate on and possibly lead the cross-functional process improvement teams to drive procedural improvements (i.e. cost reductions, Lean activities). It aligns with the President’s objective to remove administrative barriers to academic excellence. These responsibilities include working on division-wide strategic projects. These projects will focus on identifying areas where the division is not as effective or efficient as possible, to support that objective.

Conduct investigative research and monitor external investment managers by identifying potential fixed income investment opportunities consistent with the goals/objectives established by the University Investment Committee/ external investment consultants.

Interface with investment accounting, custodial bank, investment consultant and individual managers to ensure timely and accurate performance measurement, troubleshoot issues, prepare documentation for account setup, strategy funding, etc.

Coordinate work with the University attorneys to monitor securities under litigation and ensure timely execution of contracts and other legal documents. Interface with tax department to minimize or reduce the amount of withholding tax applied at source on income earned on investments in foreign markets.
