Garrett has taken the path less traveled into Venture Capital, always following a passion. After graduating from Stanford University, he began in sports marketing, first with the Oakland Raiders, focusing in luxury suite sales and then with the San Francisco 49ers helping pioneer a moneyball-esque rating system for offensive lineman. An opportunity in real estate development sent him to his native state of Idaho. There, he focused on land acquisition and entitlement, eventually founding his own real estate company, specializing in retail development. Boise opened the door for many other passion projects from congressional campaign work, community development and his own continuing education, earning an MBA from the University of Washington. He was then exposed to angel investing and became immersed in the startup ecosystem. In 2009 he joined the first Boise Angel Fund, forming and fundraising for the second fund and laying the foundation for the third. During this period he formed his own tech startup in the agriculture space and a non-profit organization focused on sustainable agriculture. He moved back to San Francisco to further explore to opportunities of the VC world, bringing his passion and knowledge of early stage investing with him. He continues to find new adventures locally and around the world.
