I have been fundraising and handling IR for a $6 BN commodities asset manager, CoreCommodity Management, (formerly Jefferies Asset Management) for the past 4+ years. Given the size of my firm (<30 people) and the size of our IR/BD team (5 people), my role encompasses a variety of responsibilities ranging from identifying potential investors and fundraising to relationship management and select investor relations tasks. Additionally, I have been integrally involved in product development to create new strategies for the firm to offer, particularly in the natural resource equity space. I currently focus my efforts on selling long-only commodity funds (leveraging the firm's extensive experience in the asset class). For those investors precluded from investing in commodities, I also pitch our absolute return and/or natural resource equity products. My client base consists of a variety of investor types (public and corporate pensions, E&F, SWFs, outsourced CIOs, and insurance companies) accessed through both direct engagement and strong consulting relationships. My primary focus is North America, throughout the US and Mexico; however, I was recently assigned lead coverage of Asia as well.
