Cherie Santos-Wuest is the Principal Investment Officer for Real Estate for the Connecticut Retirement, Pension and Trust Funds, where she invests and manages in excess of $2 billion in commitments to Real Estate investments on behalf of CT state pension funds. In this capacity, Ms. Santos-Wuest originates new investments, negotiates contracts, determines portfolio investment guidelines and valuation, reports on market and portfolio performance and makes presentations to the Treasurer and Investment Advisory Council. In her role at the public fund, she has been instrumental in integrating ESG into the Fund's investment strategies. Prior to this, she was a Managing Director at Abundant Power Group, a private equity energy finance group, where she served on the investment committee of a cleantech private equity investment fund and helped design and finance energy efficiency programs for state and local governments and utilities to facilitate the implementation of energy efficiency in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.. Ms. Santos-Wuest was previously a Director in TIAA-CREF’s Global Social and Community Investments group, where she was responsible for investing for and managing the Corporate Social Real Estate Investment Program’s $580+ million debt and equity portfolio and $50 million Green Building Technology Program portfolio. Ms. Santos-Wuest actively promoted TIAA’s Socially Responsible Investment (“SRI”) agenda on numerous industry and academic panels and seminars on urban revitalization, affordable housing, sustainability and pension fund investments across the country and abroad. Prior to this, Ms. Santos-Wuest also served as a Director in TIAA’s Global Private Markets group, responsible for large loan origination for the commercial mortgage team, where she managed and originated over $1.2 billion in debt investments in various territories within the United States and Canada. Ms. Santos-Wuest has also worked within TIAA’s CMBS and Acquisitions groups. Ms. Santos-Wuest serves on multiple advisory committees of Real Estate funds and venture capital companies. She was Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors for Impact Community Capital, a for-profit corporation that structures and manages insurance company investments financing socially responsive investments in communities within California and nationally. Ms. Santos-Wuest is a Full Member in the Urban Land Institute (ULI), an organization dedicated to providing leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide, where she is a founding member of, and serves as Chairman for the RPI Product Council. She serves on the Board of Advisers for Wall Street Without Walls, and is active on the Institute for Responsible Property Investment and the WX New York Women's Executive Real Estate Exchange. Ms. Santos-Wuest has over 20 years of real estate industry experience, including positions at national corporate real estate firms and international architectural design firms. Ms. Santos-Wuest holds a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Virginia, a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University and a Master of Science in Real Estate Development from MIT.
