Sam Masoudi, chief investment officer of the Wyoming Retirement System, has joined a prestigious cohort of chief investment officers and senior investors meeting in June to share his insights on private markets.  

Speaking to more than 200 institutional investors at Trusted Insight Alpha Conference in San Francisco on June 14, 2017, Masoudi will be a critical voice on a panel discussion of the emerging investment and fee structures in private markets.

“Private markets are attractive because they've historically produced premiums to public markets,” Masoudi said in a January 28, 2016 interview with Trusted Insight. “There's also a smoothing effect of returns based on the lagged reporting. Valuations tend to be a little stickier in private markets.”


Joining Masoudi on the panel discussion will be Dan Parker, deputy CIO at Texas Tech University, and Elaine Orr, director of investments at Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

“In private capital, the crystallization of carry before there are distributions, as well as the use of aggressive manager catch-ups, are likely to come under increasing scrutiny and pressure,” Parker said in a November 30 interview with Trusted Insight. “Managers who are consistently able to produce alpha deserve to be compensated, but there are more pretenders than contenders.”

Masoudi is just one of many high-profile chief investment officers from the industry’s top institutions speaking at the conference, including Stuart Mason, chief investment officer at the University of Minnesota; Joel Wittenberg, chief investment officer at W.K.
