Sam Masoudi, chief investment officer of the Wyoming Retirement System, has joined a prestigious cohort of chief investment officers and senior investors meeting in June to share his insights on private markets.

“Private markets are attractive because they've historically produced premiums to public markets,” Masoudi said in a January 28, 2016 interview with Trusted Insight. “There's also a smoothing effect of returns based on the lagged reporting. Valuations tend to be a little stickier in private markets.”

Joining Masoudi on the panel discussion will be Dan Parker, deputy CIO at Texas Tech University, and Elaine Orr, director of investments at Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

“In private capital, the crystallization of carry before there are distributions, as well as the use of aggressive manager catch-ups, are likely to come under increasing scrutiny and pressure,” Parker said in a November 30 interview with Trusted Insight. “Managers who are consistently able to produce alpha deserve to be compensated, but there are more pretenders than contenders.”

Masoudi is just one of many high-profile chief investment officers from the industry’s top institutions speaking at the conference, including Stuart Mason, chief investment officer at the University of Minnesota; Joel Wittenberg, chief investment officer at W.K. Kellogg Foundation; and Eric Kirsch, global chief investment officer at Aflac, among many others.

The forum will cover the latest investment trends and opportunities in the ever-changing world of alternative assets, with discussions spanning private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, real estate, real assets and private credit.

“The Trusted Insight Alpha Conference is the preeminent event for institutional investors,” said Alex Bangash, founder and CEO of Trusted Insight. “With the low-yield environment impacting institutional investors’ returns, it has never been more important to discuss portfolio diversification into alternative assets, like venture capital and private equity. In bringing together the top limited partners in our industry, we will identify how the world of institutional investing will evolve over the next forty to fifty years.”
