Mark Canavan joined New Mexico Educational Retirement Board in Mark Canavan joined New Mexico Educational Retirement Board in December 2007 to lead the pension plan&rsquo;s real estate portfolio. Seeing the onset of a financial crisis, Canavan instead made his first allocation in infrastructure, which saved the plan from deadly losses during the 2008 Financial Crisis. Since then, he has built out the real assets portfolio for NMERB with diversified exposure in various assets.
