John McCarthy was named managing director, global capital raising, at real estate money manager Starwood Capital Group, said Tom Johnson, spokesman to Pensions & Investments.
It is a newly created position. Mr. McCarthy, who had been Starwood Capital’s global head of asset management and a member of its investment committee from 2009 to 2012, was most recently senior portfolio manager and deputy head of Europe for the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. ADIA does not disclose its assets, but the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute estimates it has $773 billion.
Starwood Capital has $44 billion in assets under management.
Erik Portanger, ADIA spokesman, did not reply to requests for further information by press time.
