Federal officials have announced a $2 million grant for road and infrastructure improvements necessary to establish a new inland port in Hall County, Georgia, that will allow an expansion of operations through the Port of Savannah. The planned Northeast Georgia Inland Port will provide a direct link to the Port of Savannah via Norfolk Southern Railway, according to a press release issued by U.S. Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnack (both D-Ga.). The federal funding comes from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration.
