CIC Partners, a private equity firm based in Dallas, has made a majority investment in San Antonio oil and gas company Activa Resources. Activa has a portfolio of properties in East and South Texas as well as Arkansas. The firm is looking to acquire older fields then bring in new technology to develop them further. The investment from CIC highlights how some investors are making bets that the worst of the oil downturn is behind the market and that prices are expected to stabilize. But investing in a firm that looks for already proven fields is part of CIC’s strategy to “grow reserves and production with minimal geologic risk,” the firm’s partner Marshall Payne said in a statement.
