Private equity is “poised” to become the largest alternative asset class in Europe, as a strong fundraising environment continues. Assets in hedge funds – currently the most popular type of alternative investment – have declined as a result of poor performance, according to data provider Preqin’s annual Alternatives in Europe report, prepared in partnership with Amundi, the fund manager.
