Palo Alto, California-based Owl, developer of an automobile security camera, announced its launch along with $18 million in funding, including Series A, seed and debt financing. Investors include Defy, which led the Series A, Khosla Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Sherpa Capital, Moment Ventures, Maniv Mobility and CSAA Insurance Group. The funding announcement coincides with the company’s launch of the Owl Car Cam, an LTE-connected security camera for cars. The company is led by Founder and CEO Andrew Hodge, who previously was with Dropcam, and before that worked at Microsoft on their smartglasses HoloLens and at Apple on the company’s iPod.
