A majority stake in outdoor goods retailer Macpac has been sold to an Australian private equity fund. Champ Ventures, which owns part of sportswear chain Lorna Jane, bought the majority share for an undisclosed sum. Macpac was founded by Bruce McIntyre in 1973 in Christchurch and has 27 stores in New Zealand and 16 in Australia. It was nearly 58 per cent owned by Kathmandu founder Jan Cameron's Alp Sports. The sale to Champ Ventures, which was led by KPMG's mergers and acquisitions team, was expected to be complete at the end of January.
