Merlicek was chief investment officer at IOOF for eight years to June 2017. Prior to this he served in the same role at Telstra Super for a decade. At the 2017 SelectingSuper Awards, Rainmaker Group managing director Christopher Page presented Merlicek with the Industry Service Award for their outstanding contribution in and around the superannuation industry.
