San Francisco firefighters have extinguished a blaze in a Financial District residential high-rise that sent clouds of black smoke billowing into the sky, forced the rescue of several residents and displaced many more. The fire burned for 45 minutes in a 25-story building at 405 Davis Court near Washington Street, a part of the Gateway complex of apartments and townhouses. Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White said it appeared that nobody was killed or injured in the blaze, which broke out on the 12th floor and spread vertically through the 16th floor.
