The 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences was jointly awarded to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo, and Michael Kremer for their pioneering work in economics for the developing world. The economists took an evidence-based randomized-control-trial approach, usually reserved for clinical research, to study poverty. They have proven the effectiveness of tackling large-scale poverty through smaller-scale issues, such as tackling access to education and child healthcare.
