LA real estate investor is sweet on Seattle

Los Angeles-based real estate investment firm TruAmerica Multifamily announced Wednesday that it paid $28.7 million for Montclair Heights, a 174-unit apartment project in Renton. The purchase of the 16-acre property is TruAmerica's third acquisition in the Puget Sound region since December. Previously, the company paid $54 million for Arcadia Luxury Townhomes in Federal Way and $27 million for Westhaven Apartments in West Seattle.

Essex to Buy BRE for $4.3 Billion in Apartment REIT Deal

Essex Property Trust Inc. agreed to buy BRE Properties Inc. for about $4.3 billion, creating the largest publicly traded apartment owner on the U.S. West Coast. The combined company will own about 56,000 units in California and Seattle, areas that are among the top U.S. markets for rental growth. The transaction forms the only publicly traded real estate investment trust solely focused on West Coast apartments, and will provide a greater competitive advantage, said Michael Schall, president and chief executive officer of Palo Alto, California-based Essex.
