The Trusted Insight Summit 2019 recently welcomed 300+ institutional investors, senior executives, unicorn founders, and prominent entrepreneurs to discuss the future of global institutional asset management and emerging technologies.

On the evening of June 19th, we recognized chief investment officers who have generously shared their time, intellect, and wisdom to encourage innovative efforts, collaboration, and leadership in the investor community. We took the opportunity to highlight thought-leaders and innovative thinkers within the industry. The team looked at assets under management, asset allocation strategy, years of experience or specialization, overall career trajectory, notable achievements, and nominations from industry peers.

                  Hiroshi Ozeki
Nippon Life Insurance Company


Hiroshi Ozeki was recognized as the 2019 Distinguished Insurance Chief Investment Officer. Ozeki began his career at Nippon Life Insurance Company in 1987 and has since helped advance the global credit investment and diversification of the alternative asset management methodology. Nippon Life Insurance Company has $600 billion-plus in assets under management, making it one of the largest insurance companies in the world. The organization is also active in ESG initiatives that contribute to building a good society and solving environmental problems, investing $4 billion in ESG-related assets the last two years while their target is $6 billion by the year 2020.

 
                   Brian O’Neil
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation


Brian O’Neil was recognized as the 2019 Distinguished Health Care Chief Investment Officer. He has been the CIO at The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) since 2003, where he is responsible for the management of the foundation’s $11 billion investment portfolio. RWJF is the nation’s largest philanthropy dedicated solely to health and since 1972 has supported research and programs targeting some of America’s most pressing health issues. Brian is passionate about supporting the foundation’s important work both through generating investment returns and also through working to improve diversity and inclusion in the investment management field.                      Kim Lew
Carnegie Corporation of New York


Kim Lew, CIO, Carnegie Corporation of New York, was the winner of Trusted Insight's 2019 Diversity Award in recognition of her approach to building a strong investment team of diverse thoughts and backgrounds. Institutional investors take pride in supporting diversity within their organizations and throughout the industry. Kim is actively involved within the investor community, serving on numerous boards, and recently helped lead an LP Career Workshop at the TI Summit 2019, alongside Marcus Frampton of Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation.


 


Marcus Frampton was recognized as the 2019 Distinguished Sovereign Wealth Fund Chief Investment Officer. He joined the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation in 2012 and has since helped bring total assets to $65B. He also recently helped lead an LP Career Workshop at the TI Summit 2019, alongside Kim Lew of Carnegie Corporation of New York.


 


Stuart Mason was recognized as the 2019 Distinguished Endowment Chief Investment Officer. Stuart has served the University of Minnesota since 2002 and has implemented unique investment strategies with a large allocation to venture capital during his tenure at the organization. He has transformed the organization into the top-performing endowment in the last five-plus years, surpassing other Ivy Leagues.


 


Jerry Albright was recognized as the 2019 Distinguished Public Pension Chief Investment Officer. Jerry has oversight over one of the largest pools of capital in the world. Texas Teachers is the 6th largest public pension in the U.S. and has a portfolio structure that totals $154 billion in assets under management. In 2015, the fund became a pioneer among U.S. funds by opening a successful foreign office location in London. TRS serves nearly 1.6 million active and retired educators in the state of Texas.


 


Joel Wittenberg was recognized as the 2019 Distinguished Foundation Chief Investment Officer. Joel has served the W.K. Kellogg Foundation since 2009 and was previously the vice president-treasurer at Kellogg Company from 2000-2009. He currently leads a 12-person team investing $7 billion of assets and is an advocate of innovation and machine learning technology in the institutional investing space.
