The Research Analyst will be an integral part of Watchtower’s Investment Team, which is responsible for sourcing, analyzing and evaluating current and prospective hedge fund managers for Watchtower’s portfolios. The Research Analyst will assist in monitoring and tracking hedge funds currently in Watchtower’s portfolios, and in analyzing and evaluating hedge fund managers in Watchtower’s investment universe.

The Investment Team is responsible for recommending asset allocation policy changes; identifying investment opportunities; selecting, monitoring and terminating investment managers; measuring performance of individual managers, asset categories, and the total portfolio; meeting regularly with investment managers to review results, exposures and activity; and reporting performance to the family and other related investors.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assist in various projects, including creation and improvement of analytical tools
  • Develop an understanding of all aspects of Watchtower’s portfolio, including investment managers, strategies, and risk & performance models
  • Track and monitor various metrics (including performance, risk and exposures, and news flow) related to existing and potential investment managers and hedge funds in Watchtower’s portfolio and investment universe
  • Conduct prospective manager due diligence and analysis, including statistical analysis
  • Assist in preparing, editing and organizing material for meetings
  • Attend and participate in in-house manager meetings
  • Assist in preparing performance reports and investment recommendations for the investment committee
  • Attend and participate in internal research discussions and investment committee discussions
  • Contribute to research projects on different investment strategies, markets, geographies and industries
  • Attend industry round-tables/conferences

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills - ability to manage a diverse workload with accuracy and attention to detail, to set priorities, and to follow projects through to completion
  • Extensive experience and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint (with an emphasis on Excel)
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Strong research skills, including finding, digesting, and distilling economic and financial literature
  • At least two years of previous financial industry experience, which may include: investment banking, hedge fund, prime brokerage, research, or institutional sales/trading at a leading financial institution
  • A strong interest in, and familiarity with investment concepts and capital markets
  • A self-starter that is energetic, enthusiastic, proactive and willing to work as part of a small team in pursuit of its long-term success
  • Strong work ethic and unquestionable integrity and ethics
