The Investment Office of Mass General Brigham (MGB) oversees a large investment portfolio for Mass General Brigham (formerly Partners HealthCare), a Boston-based integrated health care system.

The Investment Office manages a $28-billion, diverse global portfolio invested across equities, private equity, hedge funds, real assets, and fixed income. The 22-person team relies on a collaborative effort among our Chief Investment Officer, seven Portfolio Managers, six Investment Analysts, and an eight-person operations and performance team.

The Role

The Investment Bus Analyst provides leadership for how the Investment Office uses technology and data to support investment processes. Working closely with the investment and operations teams, this role provides leadership for how data is sourced, maintained, and used to support investment and operations projects. This position liaises with external investment managers and technology providers. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of managing projects in a team environment and will develop a deep understanding of how technology is used to optimize investment operations.

The Experience
  • Serve as the internal expert/advocate for investment technology used for research management, risk and exposure, and private investments. As our main contact with technology providers, you will work with providers to ensure we are leveraging our technology resources effectively.
  • Serve as internal expert/advocate for data management. Devise and implement strategies to maximize data quality, completeness, and accuracy. Develop a comprehensive understanding of how data is used by various systems, and how it supports processes across the Investment Office.
  • Serve as central point of contact when multiple team members are assigned to technology or change related projects. Ensure that tasks are delegated to team members best positioned to complete them. Understand project goals and drive projects to completion.
  • Determine best alternatives for technology/process improvement initiatives. Manage and administer core systems that support investment office processes.
  • Coordinate process reviews and maintain Investment Office process descriptions.
  • Other projects as they arise.

Qualifications
  • Unquestionable ethics and integrity
  • Demonstrated aptitude and interest in data and technology, especially how these are used in the investment process.
  • 6-8+ years’ experience with endowment/foundation investment office covering operations, technology, and investment processes.
  • CFA and CAIA credentials a plus.
  • Experience with a range of investment technologies a plus, including research management systems, risk/exposure, performance, contact management, investment due diligence. Current technologies include Advent Tamale, Burgiss Private I and Private Informant, Caissa Portfolio Navigator, eVestment, Pitchbook, Feedly, and Bloomberg. Given that these tools evolve and change, the successful candidate must have a strong willingness and interest to identify and learn new solutions.
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills; ability to provide leadership to drive project success; ability delegate tasks and follow up with others.
  • Ability to handle large amounts of data; Strong Excel skills, including macros, pivot tables, charts, etc. Experience with SQL, MS Access, and Python a plus.
  • Experience and appreciation for how metrics may be used to monitor/track technology and operational effectiveness.
  • Undergraduate degree required; Master’s Degree in a related field a plus.
  • Financial skills; educational and professional experience dealing with financial issues. Strong attention to detail.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills in a team environment.
  • Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with other groups within and outside MGB. Ability to appreciate other team members’ roles and develop trust around project outcomes.
