Position Overview
The Investment Associate – Venture Capital & Growth Equity position is an opportunity to work as an integral member of a small, flat team, interfacing directly with senior management to research and evaluate investment opportunities. This position will report directly to the Managing Director of Venture Capital and Growth Equity, focusing on these private investment strategies for the Long Term Pool.
Responsibilities include:
  • Source and track new opportunities, including co-investments, with external investment managers with a predominant focus on the venture capital and growth equity asset classes 
  • Prepare for and aid in the due diligence of prospective managers and participate in manager meetings
  • Prepare and present investment recommendations alongside senior staff
  • Analyze and monitor existing portfolio holdings, perform regular manager and direct investment reviews, and assist in total portfolio strategic reviews
  • Work as an integral member of the broader investment team to research global investment themes and conduct external manager due diligence across asset classes as needed
  • Train and mentor junior staff members
  • Complete special projects as directed by senior management
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate will embody humility, intellectual honesty, a love of learning, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a passion for investment management. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a strong appreciation for the endowment model of investing, the active management process, and alternative investment strategies. Affinity for the University of Virginia or education/university endowments is preferred.
  • Passion for venture capital and preferably 2-6 years of related professional work experience
  • Demonstrated interest in investing and global markets with a high level of curiosity
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and excellent attention to detail
  • A high level of professionalism and integrity
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally to evaluate investment opportunities and attend industry conferences
  • Outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Undergraduate degree (degree in finance, economics, math, data/quantitative analysis, or engineering disciplines preferred) and excellent academic credentials
  • CFA certification or working towards a CFA certification a plus
