You’ll hear why one area where the government is ahead of the curve is cybersecurity, where since 9/11 new spending priorities have benefited those companies providing next-generation solutions to protect vital computer systems and track financial transactions of terror suspects. Many of the large prime government contactors have not been able to move quickly on their own to develop these capabilities, and have turned to acquisitions instead. Another area includes companies that help government agencies handle today’s increased demands for oversight and accountability. This is a trend that is not going away -- both political parties agree on its necessity for eliminating fraud and abuse -- and it’s healthy for the country in the long run. Rather than throw people and money at problems, governments are starting to employ IT solutions to save money over time.
